Gorgeously Wed & Ever After - Your Weekly Dose of Zen.
Tucked away in NYC’s East Village, this intimate restaurant is a little slice of heaven and our new favorite restaurant. It was hands-down our best meal of the year. Having grown up in Japan, I’m uber-picky about Japanese fare and Japanese restaurants. This place was authentically Japanese with its super nice Japanese staff and chef. You know the place is the real Japanese deal if the staff is Japanese. I know, I’m totally biased and such a food snob.
Originally from Hokkaido, Japan, the chef serves up Kyoto-style food with Hokkaido influences. The restaurant is cozy, relaxing and oh so, zen. It’s the perfect place to enjoy a long and beautiful meal. It’s no surprise this place received a Michelin star from this year’s 2014 list. Even the simple house salad was beyond yummy and delightful. The pork belly dish was one of our favorite dishes and unfortunately, the photo turned out not so great so it’s not here, but get the slowly cooked pork belly. It’s been cooking for days. To round out our meal, we finished with a dairy-free yuzu leaf sorbet. Light and refreshing, we couldn’t imagine a better way to end our meal. Love, D.
Kyo-Ya salad. Seasonal julienned vegetables. They used daikon for this.
Slow cooked daikon and napa greens in broth.
Hokkaido style lamb chops with Chef’s secret sauce. These guys were so soft and surprisingly sweet. Delish.
Soy-marinated seared Canadian salmon pressed sushi. This one was just for hubby since sushi is a no-no during pregnancy. It looked delightful with flowers and goji berries.
Simmered black cod with sweet soy sauce.
Seasonal kamadaki rice with crab. This is one of Kyo Ya’s staples so we had to try it. It takes the kitchen 45 minutes to prepare so make sure to order early.
Kyo Ya is located at:
